Jay Bregman is the founder of eCourier.co.uk, Europe’s fastest growing same day courier company. Fed up with courier companies who consistently failed to deliver, Jay had a vision to launch a courier company with a mission to deliver happiness. eCourier.co.uk has created an advanced computer algorithm, affectionately known as ‘Larry’, which sits at heart of the business, intelligently matching couriers to incoming orders. Since its launch in 2004, eCourier.co.uk has successfully revolutionised the courier industry with pioneering Internet, GPS and mobile technology. With Jay’s passion for ever increasing Larry’s whizzy capabilities, the company is set to double in size during 2008 for the second consecutive year.
Among his many academic achievements, Jay co-authored an advisory study used by ICANN for its first member election, holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Dartmouth College, and an MSc in Media and Communications Regulation & Policy from the London School of Economics. eCourier.co.uk’s success has been recognised with a trophy cabinet full of technology and business awards which have kept Jay happy as ‘Larry’ with the silver polish and a duster!
Simon Webster, Chairman and CEO, Endomagnetics
Simon Webster completed the fulltime MBA at London Business School in 1991. He was introduced to the funded search concept by the New Venture Development lecturer, Rob Johnson. The concept is to raise a small amount of money to fund a search process to look for a company to buy. He raised £80k from a group of what we would now call angel investors some of whom were LBS alums.
Simon then searched for a company, negotiated the deal, raised the money needed for the acquisition and secured the deal to become an equity owning manager in 1995. He grew the business from £3.5m to £30m sales and EBITDA from £0.4m to £2.4m over a 10 year period. He sold the company in December 2005 delivering a good return for the investors. Simon remained as chief executive until 2007.
Now Simon is the chairman & chief executive designate of Endomagnetics, a spinout from UCL and University of Houston, and a non-executive director of Mydish, an internet business funded from the LBS E100 club.
Simon is married with two children. He has organised three industry-wide fund raising climbs to the summit of Kilimanjaro (2003), Everest Base Camp (2005) and Cotopaxi (2007). He guest lectures on funded searches at IESE, Barcelona and is keen to promote the concept in the UK.
